The Summer Heroes
The Light-Bearers are a pair of towers located on two small islands that straddle the channel between the Penwith Islands and Orem. Most shipping to and from Penwith passes through these islands, as two huge stone towers sit atop them. Their origin is unknown. The towers are highly defensible—as far as towers in the middle of the ocean go—and each has a freshwater well deep within. A bridge used to span between the two towers, but that has long since fallen away.
The Light-Bearers have never been attacked and are not—and never have been—officially part of any political entity. The towers themselves are enormous and contain elements of both ancient dwarven and ancient elven construction, as well as several styles that have not been identified. The Light-Bearers are staffed by the Keepers of the Way, an order of priests dedicated to both Atein, the god of light and Eidothea, the goddess of the sea. They consider it their sacred duty to maintain the shrines to the god and goddess (the ground floor of one tower is dedicated to the god of light, the ground floor of the other to the goddess), as well as to maintain the fires that keep seafarers safe during their voyages to and from Penwith.
